C'est un mauvais démon qui apporte la maladie et la mort aux hommes sur les ordres de la déesse.<br> Nergal est un jour venu la voir pour lui porter de la nourriture et ils sont tombés amoureux l'un de l'autre à tel point qu'Ereshkigal, en pleurs, menaça de ressuciter et renvoyer tous les mort sur la terre si jamais Nergal ne revenait pas.
