Le plus célèbre d'entre eux fut Tammouz, dieu de la végétation, qu'elle alla rechercher aux Enfers.<br> <br> Elle voulut faire de Gilgamesh son époux mais celui-ci refusa. Furieuse, elle demanda à son père Anu d'envoyer le taureau céleste pour tuer Gilgamesh et son ami Enkidu.<br> Mais ils réussirent à le tuer et jetèrent la dépouille à ses pieds. Alors Ea créa un bel eunuque Asushunamir, qui trompa Ereshkigal en ranimant Ishtar avec de l'eau de la vie.
